A real life "Barbie" is backing down from a costly legal fight with toy giant Mattel over the domain name Barbiesshop.com.
Bondage clothing designer Barbie Anderson-Whalley says she's been using the web address for her online gothic related clothing site for over four years, named after her "brick and morter" business in Calgary, Alberta. Canada. But Mattel notified the leather bound proprieter in July that the her businesses name was diluting the companys "Barbie" doll trademark.
After some legal entanglements and hefty lawyer bills totalling over 8 thousand dollars, the clothing designer has decided to relinquish the domain. On the flipside, she reached an agreement with Mattel to keep her clothing store name intact.
